When your A/C isn’t cooling, the big question is whether it just needs a recharge or an actual repair. The honest answer depends on why it’s low — and that’s exactly what a proper diagnosis sorts out.
Over years of normal use, some systems slowly lose a small amount of refrigerant and simply need to be topped back up to spec. If the system is otherwise sound, holds pressure, and there’s no active leak or failed part, a recharge can be all it takes to get cold air back.
If refrigerant is escaping through a leak, or a component like the compressor, condenser, or a hose has failed, a recharge alone won’t fix it — the refrigerant will just leak back out, sometimes within days. In those cases the leak or failed part has to be repaired first, then the system recharged.
Some shops will happily recharge a leaking system, take your money, and send you off — only for the A/C to quit again soon after. You end up paying for the refrigerant twice and still needing the repair. That’s not how we work.
We test the system, check for leaks, and look at how it’s actually behaving before recommending anything. Sometimes the fix really is a simple recharge — and we’ll tell you that.
