Most vehicle manufacturers and repair shops recommend a brake inspection every 10,000–15,000 km, or roughly every 4–6 months, whichever comes first. If you do a lot of stop-and-go city driving, tow a trailer, or drive hilly routes regularly, your brakes wear faster and deserve a closer look more often than that.
For an average driver putting on typical Oxford County mileage, an annual check lines up comfortably with that general guidance — and it’s easy to remember if you book it alongside another regular service, like an oil change. Winters here add another factor: road salt and moisture speed up corrosion on brake hardware, especially the caliper pins and sliders that let a caliper move freely (more on that in a separate article). A once-a-year check catches that kind of wear before it turns into a bigger repair.
