Brake fluid works under serious heat, especially during hard or repeated braking, so a lower boiling point means it’s more likely to vapourize under stress — which can make the pedal feel soft or spongy right when you need it most.
Beyond the boiling-point issue, moisture in brake fluid promotes corrosion inside brake lines, calipers, and the master cylinder — components that are expensive to replace and hard to inspect without taking the system apart. Catching this early, with a fluid change, is far simpler than repairing corrosion damage later.
Standard guidance across most manufacturers is a brake fluid flush roughly every 2–3 years, regardless of mileage — this is a time-based service, not a distance-based one, since moisture absorption happens whether the car is driven a lot or not. It’s easy to lose track of, since there’s rarely a dashboard light or an obvious symptom telling you it’s due.
